ROBOTICS AND PROGRAMMING AWARENESS IN OUR COMMNUNITY

The VARC girls volunteered to help host a Girl Powered event in Vermillion in Oct 2016.  They helped younger girls assemble a robot and run it through a maze.  We also had some female speakers in STEM fields talk with the girls.
Emily from team 1007H taught Code Club at the Vermillion Public Library in the fall of 2016.
Members of VARC volunteered to work compliance at SDSU's BEST robotics competition in Oct 2016. Team 1007H members helping youth (new to robotics) at SDSU' BEST competition make a modification to their robot to be in compliance.

VARC hosted a VEX IQ non-official scrimmage and fun day in Vermillion on Dec. 30, 2016. Members of the VRC teams volunteered to work all aspects of a tournament (referee, timer, score input, team queuing). We had teams from Iowa, NE, and SD partnering together on the VEX field-some youth for the first time!  It also helped teams getting ready for the SD State Championship in Harrisburg.

Members of the VARC teams setup a booth at the Clay County Fair in Aug 2016. Area youth were able to see what our club does and even test drive a VEX IQ robot.
After a visit to Plucker Diary farm, members of the team 1008C brought awareness to robotics on the dairy farm through their STEM project.  They loved the freedom a robot on the farm allowed for the dairy farmer but the robot was expensive. They looked for ways to maximize cthe operation ost through solar power or wind energy.

VARC youth spoke at Yankton's 1 Million Cups forum this summer along with the Vermillion Rotary Club meeting, the Clay County Fair, and other venues promoting youth robotics in South Dakota!

Members of VARC helped host our first-ever robotics camps.  Roger came up with the challenges to keep the design campers busy over the 2 days.  One of the young ladies continued on in robotics and was on one of the Harrisburg IQ teams this robotics season!
